California Association of Zoos and Aquariums (CAZA) is the unified, state-wide voice for zoos and aquariums that are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums in the State of California. Comprised of 20 voting members, we promote professional zoos, aquariums and animal parks, encourage and educate on best practices and high ethical standards, and monitor legislation that may impact our industry.

  • California's accredited zoos and aquariums attract more than 18 million annual visitors

  • Some 500,000 member households that belong to AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums throughout the state of California, showing broad support for their conservation work

  • The combined annual operating budgets of these zoos and aquariums are more than $750 million

  • Last year alone, these institutions invested $100 million in capital investments in infrastructure and new developments

  • These zoos and aquariums support more than 3,600 full time and over 1,700 part time employees

  • CAZA institutions are actively involved in education, conservation and creating a diversity of recreational experiences for the people in their communities.
